Observation: This community looks very nice. There is a section of townhouses at the front and there are houses towards the back. The townhouses are tall and the houses are placed very close to each other. Inside of the model home looked very nice. The furniture was leather and the carpet was clean.
Speculation: This is a very nice community. It is upper middle-class to upper-class. I live right around this area, and it is the suburbs. It is middle-class around my house, and people looking for an upgrade may want to move into a place like this.
Analysis: This place is for richer people. The houses here cost a lot of money. They probably target people with high paying jobs. The land here probably was not very expensive, so they bought a lot of it. This is a good place for a neighborhood.
Evaluation: This is a very good location for a new development. There are many other older developments all around this subdivision. Some families who want to upgrade to a nicer home but keep their children in the same schooling zone could move here. This place is very close to malls and shopping centers.

COMPARISON:
My community feels more like a community than Legacy Park. Although Legacy Park may look nicer than my neighborhood, Legacy Park looks very fake. There is nobody in my neighborhood handing out flyers and trying to get me to buy homes. My neighborhood is more roomy also. You actually have room to walk in between houses in my neighborhood and you can park your cars in front of your house. Legacy Park seems way too stuck up and strict for me.

Nice job on your observations. However, what did you notice as far as the spacing and architecture of the buildings? What about the street patterns and the their width? What about traffic, both car and pedestrian? What about the buildings? Were any buildings “mixed-use?” In other words, did you see any buildings that served as both residences and businesses? What about the homes? Where were the cars? Were there driveways? Did you notice the parks? Did the community have amenities such as community pools and gyms? What about the schools?
ReplyDeleteI've read a lot of comments about the notion that these new 'hoods are too fake and don't fell like real neighborhoods. It's like buying a shiny new car that looks nice on the outside but has no engine!
Don't forget that you're trying to understand the concept of urbanization. Baldwin is a great example of what urban planners have been trying to do, which is to stop the suburbs. For more info, check out the following link:
